It’s a Girl!

Adding Estrogen To the Mix

Michele Fleury - Lesbian Auto Writer

I have heard many criticisms of Gaywheels.com in the nearly three years since it launched. Most are from ignorant homophobes that challenge me on the need for a GLBT-targeted automotive site. My response to them is well-versed and steeped in data. The other comments usually involve me going to hell or some sort of death threat. I’ve learned to ignore and even laugh at most of them.

Of all the critiques over the years, the one that bothered me the most was the fact that we didn’t have a consistent female voice on the site. It hasn’t been for lack of trying. I had looked high and low for a talented lesbian writer that could speak intelligently about cars and trucks. That dry spelled ended in October of last year when I met Michele Fleury on Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles.
Michele was the art director for a shoot we did for Echelon Business Magazine at the end of the Team G.L.A.M.’s participation in The Fireball Run. Between makeup applications to take the shine off my bald scalp, we bonded over cars and the conversation turned to her writing for gaywheels.com. It has taken while to figure out the logistics but we finally got her on board. Check out her Bio below and look for more reviews and with luck, videos from Michele in the future.

While growing up in New Jersey, Michele was a typical baby dyke in training and completely hooked on cars. One uncle owned a junkyard, another owned a Texaco station and yet another managed a Ford dealership. Every Sunday she poured over the auto section of The Bergen Record, fantasizing about her first ride. If only her parents would have indulged her obsession with the ’66 Corvette Convertible, there is now way to tell how many women she could have scored in high school. She settled for a 4-cyl Jeep Wrangler with manual steering. Luckily, the lack of power steering primed her arms for her future love of surfing and her recent stint as reality tv star on Logo’s Curl Girls. While the hope of the ’66 Vette is still alive, Michele has stayed true to her East Coast roots by driving a ’98 Saab.
