What did you think you wanted to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a writer for Car & Driver. Now, I pitch them stories, so I’d say I ended up pretty close.
How long have you worked in the auto industry? 6 years
What do you drive now? 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe w/Navigation (yes, I know)
Are you out at work? Yes
Was being gay ever an issue at any of your jobs? ? No. If anything, I’d say at my last job my boss pushed me to be more myself than I had been previously, and I’m definitely grateful for it.
If you had one piece of advice to give to a gay person wanting to work in the auto industry, what would it be? Be yourself, and know the industry and your job in it, whether you’re an analyst, an engineer, a designer, a salesperson, or in public relations. People assume that being gay and being a “car person” are mutually exclusive, but they’re most certainly not—and oftentimes, one can get ahead in proving those common misconceptions wrong.
Ok, here is the fun part; if you had $25,000 and had to buy a new car, what would it be and why? This is the fun part? There’s a lot of great cars to be had right now, but I’d have to say, the 2010 Kia Soul. It’s not from a gay-friendly manufacturer (yet), but I love the Soul because it’s got a lot of utility in an affordable package that’s packed with style.

Same question but bigger budget; $50,000: My practical side says 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid would be great to drive and great for the environment. My dreaming side says to go for a 2010 Infiniti G37 convertible.
If money was no object and you had to drive it every day:
2010 Jaguar XFR. I used to regularly autocross a Jaguar XJR—which was just big, bad, silly fun—so an XFR is an easy pick.
What is your favorite car of all time and why?
Easy—1936 Cord 810 Beverly. A remarkable achievement at the time, and still stunning to behold today.
If your car/truck could talk, what would it say about you?
Wash me, and fix my broken mirror already!
Finally, why do you want to be featured on Gaywheels.com? I’ve always been an enthusiastic supporter of Gaywheels.com since the start, and so anything I can do to combat the idea that you can’t be a car guy and be gay is good by me.
