The 2019 Ford Edge is still holding its own

The 2019 Ford Edge has quite a ‘tude and rightly so; even after 13 years, it is still a visual standout in its segment.  For 2019, the Ford Edge comes in four flavors–SE, SEL, Titanium, and the performer ST.

Design-wise, Ford has modified the crossover SUV’s styling for the current model year. The midsizer’s conspicuous styling is made even more distinct by its aggressive front fascia and wider grille, abbreviated hood, sleek bi-LED headlamps, humongous windshield, and new taillights.  The Edge’s overall look is upscale, combined with sporty.

Getting in and out of the Edge is child’s play, so if you have a few miles on you, this will be appreciated.  Passenger-comfort is a huge strength in the Edge, it is definitely a vehicle you can road trip with for hours on end.  There is ample room in the crossover’s front and rear; it uses space well. The vehicle’s overall cabin build quality is solid and has a premium look with soft-touch surfaces and tasteful appointments. Storage and cupholders are more than enough for your average brood. Cargo space is a-plenty with 39.2 cubic feet and with the rear seats down, the room expands to 73.4 cubic feet.  For those folks who always seem to have their hands full, a mere wave of the foot under the Edge’s Titanium trim bumper and viola, the power liftgate opens!

In the field of high-tech toys, Ford offers the latest in-car infotainment system and with an interface that’s a cinch to operate. There’s an 8-inch display screen with crisp graphics, and an intuitive menu layout. The deal is sweetened with Ford’s Sync 3 system which has the standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Higher trims like the Titanium come with a wireless charging pad.

Driving the Edge is a pleasurable experience because it handles just like a sedan.  You’ll find the five-seater to be calm and relaxed at highway speeds and in a quiet cabin to boot.  The crossover’s engine does not disappoint and accelerates with real authority; braking, steering and handling are pretty inspiring.  The Edge also handles bumpy roads effortlessly and takes corners with ease. The vehicle drop kicks its old standby 3.5-liter V6 in favor of a standard turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 250 horses for its SE, SEL and Titanium trims.  The ST trim produces more of a grunt with its 335-hp twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 engine. Front-wheel drive is standard on 4-cylinder vehicles, but all-wheel drive is available for an additional fee. As far as fuel thirst, Ford improved the Edge’s consumption, and now it receives an EPA guesstimate of 22 city/29 highway.

Ford offers a robust list of safety features in its Edge which is now equipped with the new Co-Pilot360 suite of five driver must-have safety aids–blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping system, automatic high-beam headlamps and a rearview camera with camera washer. Another worth mentioning safety feature is the optional adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.

The 2019 Ford Edge delivers an eye-catching design that rises above the pack in style and comfort.  If you’re in the market for a midsized crossover, it should land on your shopping list.
