Volkswagen ‘Trailer Assist’: It Doesn’t Fix The Diesel Cheating Scandal, But It’s Fun To Watch

Here’s a new publicity stunt from the German automaker currently being investigated by governments around the world over 11+ million illegally rigged diesel vehicles. The video above doesn’t do anything to fix Volkswagen’s cars or their not-so-clean emissions, but hey, it’s fun to watch. Via Mashable:

Volkswagen is promoting its semi-autonomous Trailer Assist system with a pretty crazy stunt.

The Norwegian arm of the German automaker cut a small car in half and constructed a plexiglass trailer around it, letting the driver see out but preventing anyone else from seeing in. The driver pulls a VW wagon around town while making it look like some lunatic is reversing his trailer at a breakneck speed.

Trailer Assist allows the car to park semi-autonomously using the rear backup camera. With the feature engaged, the driver designates which way the trailer should go using the sideview mirror switch; the car steers itself and the trailer into the parking spot.

FWIW, there’s a “making of” clip, too.
