I just arrived here in Pebble Beach and while I missed the live showing of the hot new CTS sportwagon, the folks at GM provided some great video and photography below.
According to Cadillac, the 2010 CTS Sport Wagon is “the right car at the right time” – meaning that while cargo requirements may not have changed, the American consumer’s appetite for large SUVs has dwindled in the era of $4/gallon gasoline. What is the next best solution? Why a wagon of course!
Many automotive journalists, me included, have touted the benefits of a wagon over large SUVs notably similar cargo and occupant capacity with better fuel economy and fun-to-drive quotient. The Europeans figured this out a long time ago but for whatever reason, the American public hadn’t joined the cheer-leading squad. That may change with this aggressively styled CTS Wagon.
Watch the video below and hear John Howell – Cadillac’s Global Product Director discuss the new CTS:
The CTS Sport Wagon will be available in Spring 2009 as a 2010 model. It is based on the CTS sedan and will share the same engines and transmissions. The means an available 6-speed manual and an AWD version as well. It is estimated to get up to 26 MPG on the highway. See spec chart below for more details.
I think I’ll have to ask Santa for a CTS-V Sport Wagon. Now THAT would be HOT.
