December 28, 2009 – I was a guest of Ford Motor Company at their headquarters in Dearborn, MI to get a glimpse of what is coming from FoMoCo at the 2010 NAIAS (a.k.a the Detroit Auto Show). While I can’t tell you about the majority of what we saw, Ford is allowing us to share the news about the new engine in the 2011 Mustang GT.
Following up on the news of the updated 3.7L V6 with 305 HP and estimated 30 MPG on the highway, Ford announced the return of the 5.0L V8 in the GT. The new V8 pumps out 412 HP and is estimated to get a respectable 25 MPG highway. Combined with some minor interior upgrades and a new 6-speed manual transmission the new 5.0-liter V8 will address the complaints of it being underpowered compared to its arch rival the Chevrolet Camaro.
We didn’t get to get behind the wheel but they started and revved it for us. Words cannot describe it. I got tingly all over..and I mean ALL OVER.
More great product news to come from Ford. Watch for our live coverage of the Detroit Auto show January 11 – 12, 2010.
