Procrastination is a wonderful thing. It helps us ignore deadlines and convinces us that our lives are super-important and way busier than they really are. It’s like a stress-reliever and an ego-boost all in one — and it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than therapy.
But believe it or not, procrastination also has a downside. Anecdotal evidence suggests that procrastination can prevent you from accomplishing things — important things like, say, buying Christmas presents for friends and family.
If you know someone who’s fallen prey to the I’ll-do-it-later bug this holiday season, never fear: we have three last-minute gift ideas that are sure to please nearly everyone on your your friend’s list. And given our own inclinations here at Gaywheels, it should come as no surprise that these goodies are especially good for car fans.
1. A charitable donation
Let’s face it: most of us have way too much stuff. We don’t need another toaster or a scented candle or a set of holiday dishrags. Making a charitable gift in someone’s name is thoughtful, tasteful, and it won’t take up any room in the recipient’s already cluttered house. For the auto aficionado, consider a gift to Racing for Kids, which “is designed to use the increasing popularity of motorsports to focus public attention and funding on the health care needs of children”. There’s also Meals on Wheels, which delivers over 1,000,000 meals every day to seniors and shut-ins across the country. Best of all: you can nab this gift from the comfort of your own living room.
2. Car care goodie bag
For this one, you’re going to have to venture out into the world — something you might not want to do on Christmas Eve. But worry not: today’s worst crowds will be at malls, not at car-care stores. Just put on some sweats; dash over to Auto Zone, Pep Boys, or your store of choice; grab a quick mix of wax, upholstery cleaner, oil, fuel treatment, and other everyday stuff; then wrap everything up in a chamois cloth your recipient can use to shine his or her ride. For an added touch, use a paper air freshener as a gift tag. Your move, Martha Stewart.
3. Netflix
As much as we love our cars, we can’t spend every waking hour driving, cleaning, and modding them out. Sometimes, we just want to stretch out on the sofa and watch Vin Diesel flex his biceps as he boosts hot cars. Giving someone on your list a subscription to Netflix allows them to do just that. Or if they prefer, they can always draw the curtains and snuggle up to everyone’s second-favorite Christmas movie, Miracle on 34th Street. (Sadly, Auntie Mame isn’t available on instant queue.)
No matter your religious affiliation — or lack thereof — have a great week. We’ll be back in a couple of days with more great car news and reviews.
