Live From NY, It’s Gaywheels.com!

Wednesday, March 19, 2008 – We’re here in rainy New York City at the last big show of the early auto show season. The show isn’t as important as Detroit or as large as Chicago but it promises to have some interesting debuts.
In this day and age, there are no secrets. We’ve already posted photos of the G8 Sport Truck and the other vehicles making their debut from Pontiac have photos readily available. See the pic below of the hot Pontiac Solstice Coupe. I’m attending the debut at 11:35 AM and will share my opinion posthaste.

2009 Solstice Coupe

I’ll do my best to post photos between press conferences. One of the most anticipated is the new Nissan Maxima. Insiders are telling us that it is a return to the 4DSC (4-door sports car) that made Maxima and enthusiasts dream. Anything is better than the current car!
Stay tuned!!

Inaugural G.L.A.M. – NY Party Sponsored by Palm Beer

Gaywheels.com had our inaugural party last night at The Ritz Bar & Lounge here in Manhattan. Palm Beer was our sponsor and as you can see in the album below, everyone enjoyed the latest import from Belgium. If you live in N.Y.C., stop by The Ritz Bar & Lounge and ask for a Palm. You won’t be sorry.
A big “Thank You” to everyone that attended the event. We look forward to doing again in the near future.

More from the Auto Show Floor

We are a little short-staffed this year but we’ll be sure to post a complete wrap-up after the show. So far, the most interesting debuts have come from Nissan with their new Maxima (see slideshow below) and a threesome from Pontiac – the Solstice coupe, the G8 Sport Truck and the HOT G8 GXP with the 6.1 litre V8 from the Corvette with will be available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Can you say Hallelujah? Bob Lutz had help from the rapper 50-cent to introduce the cars. We’ll get photos up ASAP.

More to come, I promise!

Pontiac, BMW and Volvo Photos

Ok, we waited for the crowds to subside and finally got up close and person with the Pontiac Solstice Coupe and G8 GXP. The Solstice looks better in person and while it is slightly more practical than the convertible version, it is hardly something you’d take for the shopping trip to the outlets. The section above the seats is removable but you have to store the top outside the vehicle as there isn’t enough room in the rear hatch. They will offer a canvas top to keep on hand in case you get caught in the rain with your top off (does that sound like a title from a cartoon porno xxx film to you?).
The G8 GXP is American Muscle all day long – even though it is designed and built in Australia. It isn’t pretty by any stretch but if you like your boys with muscles and the butch attitude, you’ll love the G8 GXP.
For the more sophisticated, there is the very attractive XC60 from Volvo. It is their latest iteration of SUV styling and it is definitely a looker. We look forward to getting some seat time in the near future. The interior is truly stunning.
The BMW M3 convertible is for those of you who want to haul ass and tan at the same time. There is no rational reason for this vehicle but since when does rational thought come into play when looking at this class of vehicle?

Look for our Top 5 Picks from the show in a day or two. For those of you who have Sirius and listen to OutQ, Gaywheels.com will be on tomorrow (Thursday) night at 7 PM ET. The two “Gay Joes” (LaMuraglia and Tralongo) will be giving our feedback on the NY Auto show live with Derek & Romaine. Make sure you tune in!
Oh, GM was a little late to the game with their webcast this year but if you want to see the Pontiac introductions like you were there, watch the video below:
