GM Launches New Warranty

GM 100,000 Mile Warrantyr

DETROIT–September 6, 2006– General Motors has been on a winning streak lately. Their Saturn Sky earned the top position in our Top 10 Most Researched list, their Pontiac G6 and Solstice made a huge splash at Atlanta’s Gay Pride event and their Chevrolet Aveo is one of the top-selling subcompacts this year. Today GM announced a new warranty program that is another reason to add this gay-friendly manufacturer’s brands to your shopping list.

The new coverage includes powertrain coverage up to 100,000 miles or five years across its entire 2007 car and light-duty truck lineup in the United States and Canada. They are also offering roadside assistance and a courtesy vehicle program for all the brands. Think about it. If something goes wrong and is covered under warranty, you don’t have to suffer the bad coffee, screaming kids and stale croissants in the service department. They’ll give you a way to escape to Starbucks. If you’ve spent any time in a service department lately, you know that alone is a reason to buy.
For non-powertrain components, GM’s Bumper-to-Bumper New Vehicle Limited Warranty remains in effect: four years or 50,000 miles for Buicks, Cadillacs, Hummers and Saabs, and three years or 36,000 miles for Chevrolets, GMCs, Pontiacs and Saturns.
You may have noticed that other manufacturers tout “Best Warranty in America” or “America’s Best Warranty”. So, you might ask, how can GM make the claim of “WARRANTY OF ANY FULL-LINE AUTOMAKER”. It is all depends on how you define BEST but the difference is in the details. GM’s new coverage has no deductibles and is fully-transferable – compare that to Hyundai, for example, and you’l realize that their 100,000 warranty is useless to the second owner unless they are a family member.

We had the pleasure of speaking with W. W. Brent Dewar, GM’s VP of Field Sales, Service and Parts. He shared that this program has been in the works for a few years and that considerable consumer research and insights went into the decision to offer such a comprehensive warranty. “It comes down to giving the consumer the confidence in our product and making any repairs required as hassle-free as possible. Our quality has improved, our technology is outstanding and we wanted a warranty that was in the same league” offered Dewar.
The new warranty also will apply retroactively to 2007 GM cars and trucks already sold.
