I got a few notes about the European Car of the Year in the past day or two and figured it is garnering enough attention to post here.  The latest alert was via Twitter from @TendanceAuto.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I have resisted reporting on awards like this because I felt they perpetuated the stereotype of what a “gay” car is.  After investigating a bit more, I discovered there are a group of gay automotive enthusiasts in Europe that have a site dedicated to promoting the motoring culture amongst gay car enthusiasts.  They have an annual vote for the European Gay Car of the Year and this year’s winner is the Fiat 500C

The site, Ledorga, also chose a European Gay Brand of the Year.  Citroen is the winner.  Follow the link for the explanation of how they won.

Gaywheels follows a different model for year-end awards.  Our editors choose vehicles in various categories in our annual “Best Of” list.  Click here to see our Best of 2009.  Ironically, one of our editors chose the Fiat 500C as “Best Makeover”.

As of this writing, we won’t be getting the Fiat 500C here in the U.S.
