The 2025 Genesis G80 is IMHO the ultimate in luxury sedans that are not too-too big and certainly not pint-size. Luxury and style abound with this gas-powered rolling luxury suite.
U.S. News and World Report ranks this year’s G80 Number 1 in Luxury Midsize Car, noting its “smooth ride and upscale interior.” (Yes, it’s considered a midsize sedan, but it really does need port and starboard lights IMHO.)
Length is just under 200 inches and width is just over 75 inches. Valet parking is recommended when you cannot find the ease of parking that you have on your estate. (FYI if you can find a side hustle as a valet at those upscale joints, the money is good, I hear.)
Leather. “Open-pore” wood trim, All-Wheel Drive. The standards are extensive, along with the base inline-4 300 horsepower engine (a 375-horspower V6 is also available). Throw in a standard 27-inch center console screen and you really do have the lap of luxury from all angles.
At a minimum, you will need just under $60K (before steel and aluminum tariffs) to get into the G80, and the price will only go up from there if you want bigger wheels, power liftgate of Bang & Olufsen sound.
Combined mileage is just 24 mpg, but there is an electric version of the G80, called the ‘Electrified G80’. Range is about 282 miles and has many of the components of higher-trim gasoline G80s.
Make no mistake, this is a luxury car that’s clearly on every controlled substance (re: steroids) that is not on your health insurance formulary. In other words, get ready for a trip where “one pill (truly) makes you larger.”
Hey, I enjoyed driving the Sport Prestige All-Wheel Drive trim, which currently comes in just under $80K US. It was fun while it lasted; thankfully, no nachos or Slurpees were spilled.
Whatever is currently going on with tariffs (and with Trump, who can ever know), there will be new tariff threats throughout 2025 and some of them actually may stick. Ultimately, we are the ones who will pay the price for higher tariffs, not the exporting country.
When it comes to cars, get ready to pay more at the dealer, as well as with your insurance agent. Having a reliable set of wheels has never been more expensive, even when you factor inflation into the equation.
Depending on your financial situation, if it is anything less than Wowee-Wow-Whee (sung to the tune of We’re in the Money), you may want to look at purchasing a used vehicle. Anything used is fraught with unknowns and pitfalls, but if you can isolate the good sellers from the bad, you may be okay. This article by Consumer Reports (one of my trusted news sources) is a great place to begin.

Gosh, I miss the Obamas and the Clintons, back in a day when even the weather and airplanes cooperated.
Did you know that when Pete Buttigieg was U.S Secretary of Transportation that there were no fatal air crashes?
Come 2025 and the skies have clearly gotten more dangerous.
So has life in America…..
