Europe has long been known for their acceptance of more “creative” messaging in their advertising. The most famous example from an automotive perspective is probably Hyundai’s “Boy Toy” commercial that won the Gayest Commercial of All Time” Award in 2001. Well it seems that Daihatsu is going for the “Gayest Automotive Web Site of All Time Award” with the launch of the site for a vehicle called the Trevis on their German website.
The Japanese company leaves no doubt who the target market is for this small car in the German market – those who like hot shirtless guys dressed as cowboys, sailors and baseball players. The site features a dancing version of each of these gay fantasies and if I am reading the German correctly, you can send e-cards to your friends featuring the cute Trevis along with any one of the aforementioned dream dudes. In a obvious attempt at increasing page views, even the icon that appears while the content is loading is a shirtless cowboy shaking his booty to the music!
