2008 BMW X6

I am sitting in my hotel room as I write this. The sound of a hair dryer in the bathroom is my only reminder of the events of yesterday. It all happened so fast; I looked up, made eye contact and the impact on both parties was instant. We came together, wrestled a bit and then BAM, full entry with no warning. Then it was all over.
Yes, it was a short affair but while it lasted, it was ever so wonderful. I am speaking of the brief time I spent behind the wheel of a 2008 BMW X6 xDrive50i yesterday that ended abruptly as my co-driver mated the vehicle with a “No Parking” sign on the side of the road.
We had just exchanged positions and we were driving down a foggy, mountain road when I looked up at the very instant we slid off the road and found the ONLY sign within miles and promptly introduced it to our fuel tank.
20+ gallons of gasoline on a mountain road in S.C. don’t a safe situation make so while we waited I donned a orange safety vest and did my best to keep the locals from meeting the mess we left on the road and subsequently, our X6 which was conveniently hidden behind the next bend. (Thanks to Agent001 from AutoSpies.com for that LOVELY photo of me.)
You might be asking why the hair dryer brought back memories of our event. It is drying my sneakers after I soaked them in the tub to get the stench of gasoline out.
Alas, I don’t have photos of the sign post and gas tank mating but I promise to post them when I get them. In the meantime, it is difficult to give proper driving impressions until I spend more time in the vehicle. I’m driving to Atlanta today and should be able to give a better idea of how the new X6 drives. Until then, enjoy the photos below courtesy of BMW.

Monday, April 14th – Here are the photos of the X6 with the sign post impaled in its fuel tank. Look closely and you can see the metal post sticking out when it is on the tow truck.
I was able to drive a 6-cylinder X6 to Atlanta from Spartanburg, SC and I expect to post a review soon. Stay tuned!
