Three important things have happened in the past 24 hours:
- Kim Davis — Christian anti-hero and future star of the live-action comic-strip sitcom Cathy: The Later Years — claims she had a meeting with the pope.
- Things continue to go very, very, badly in the Middle East, proving, among other things, that The Princess Bride was right: Never fight a land war in Asia.
- Tesla Motors revealed the Model X SUV.
The Model X isn’t for sale yet — at least not in the conventional way. The ultra-sleek, super-high-tech SUV that boasts a minimum range of at least 250 miles and a 0-to-60 time that can dip to 3.2 seconds in some models is available by reservation only. That’ll be $5,000, please.
The good news is, if you already put your money on the table, you should receive your Model X soon.
The bad news is, if you haven’t, you probably won’t get your vehicle for another year or so.
The odd news is that the Model X can protect you from weaponized smallpox. Between that curious feature and CEO Elon Musk’s highly publicized concerns about artificial intelligence, we’re concerned that he may be headed for a very Howard Hughes future.
You can watch a few minutes from last night’s reveal of the $80,000+ Model X* in the video above, and learn more at TeslaMotors.com.
* Signature-edition models, available only to early buyers, cost $132,000 or more.
