2016 Passat Unveiling: Chicken Little, The Sky Is Not Falling Because Volkswagen Lied
Alright people, I will get right to the point. The Volkswagen emissions scandal (A.K.A.—Dieselgate) is not by any stretch of the imagination the “largest scandal in the history of auto manufacturing” nor is it any more of a “betrayal of…
Roadtrip – 2010 Golf TDI
I just took delivery of a blue four-door Golf TDI with VW’s Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG®) and will be piloting it to the 2010 Detroit Auto show from Northern NJ. To give you real feedback from the car, my co-driver and I will be using Twitter to tweet our thoughts about the car from the road. If my initial impression from my trip to Germany is any indication, the TDI should get high marks during this trip. But, as they say, there is nothing like a long road trip to make a car show its true colors. Ok, THEY don’t really say that, I say that…but it really is true.
Road Trip in a 2009 VW Touareg V6 TDI
I just spent a week at the helm of the 2009 VW Touareg V6 TDI. The week included a trip from my home in Northern NJ to Atlanta, GA via Greensboro, NC. The stop in NC was to pick up three nephews that helped work on my home in Hotlanta for a few days. When the Touareg was scheduled, I had no idea that I’d be putting so many miles on it. Lucky for me, it coincided with a free week in my schedule and I couldn’t have been happier with its combination of luxurious comfort, room and excellent highway fuel economy. And according to three 16 year-old boys’, the Touareg kicks as*. Their words, not mine.
2009 VW Touareg TDI
by Colin Mathews The Germans are launching an all-out diesel assault on the American market this year, and many in the automotive media have their share of doubts that they’ll succeed. Include me in that mix. And it’s not because…
2009 BMW 335d
By Casey Williams If you felt a little lighter this week, it was only because I slowed the earth’s rotation ever so slightly with the 2009 BMW 335d. It followed a VW Jetta TDI in my driveway, but there is…
2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Sportwagen
by Colin Mathews The average American doesn’t cotton to wagons anymore – the minivan, the SUV, and now the crossover have successfully taken its place for a huge cross-section of America. But then the GLBT community has never exactly mirrored…
A Week Behind the Wheel – 2009 Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec
I returned from a trip to San Francisco this past Wednesday and was greeted at the airport by a 2009 Mercedes-Benz E-Class BlueTech. Ok, it didn’t actually GREET me; I had to take a bus to the off-site parking (an adventure in itself at Newark), wait in line, fill out paperwork…you know the drill. Alas, after entirely too long dealing with the incompetent people at Avistar Haynes lot, I finally received the keys to the Diesel Benz.
BlueTec by Mercedes-Benz – Video
Mercedes-Benz has been synonymous with Diesel cars for over 100 years so it makes sense that they are the first to introduce the latest diesel technology to the U.S. market. Dubbed “BlueTec”, it is a clean diesel technology that will have you and your friends not believing your ears or eyes. It is clean, quiet and actually FUN to drive.
Is Blue(Tech) the New Green?
June 26, Manchester, VT – I just spent a day driving a trio of SUVs from Mercedes-Benz featuring their new clean diesel technology called BlueTech. Let me correct that; I spent part of the day driving and the rest of the time scripting, filming and generally screwing up a video that I’ll share with you in the near future.
