In case you missed it, Nissan spoke out loudly and proudly in favor of Friday’s Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges. In fact, in keeping with its A+ rating from HRC, Nissan issued not one, but two pro-marriage-equality statements — one for its mass-market brand, Nissan, and one for its luxury marque, Infiniti.
And then came the image above.
Several of you may be icked out by the thought of all these car companies — some of whom are really late to the LGBT equality party — vying for our business now that we’re the Cool Kids. I get that.
And I admit, I can’t help feeling like some companies are voicing their support fairly timidly, so as not to spook the horses (aka bigoted longtime customers). I mean, is it just me, or is it strange that this image is just made for social media, and yet it doesn’t appear on Nissan’s Facebook page?
But set that aside for now. Let’s celebrate this historic moment and look on the bright side — and the bright side isn’t just that we can now marry the ones we love, it’s also that we’ve got more clout. Let’s use it wisely to keep pushing for all the things that LGBT people still need, here and around the world.
