Photographer Megan Green is known for her spectacular shots of cars and car culture. Recently, Megan sent Gaywheels three sets of her work, which we’ll roll out over the next few Fridays. Here’s a series she calls “Retro”, along with a note from the artist.

Retro has to be the most fun series to shoot and look at.

So often, classic car shows have rockabilly bands playing, and the music scenesters show up and try to out-vintage each other. Tattoos, pompadours, crinolines, cat-eye sunglasses, pin-up girls and custom hot rods: it’s a ton of fun. I started bringing my Sabre 620 — a box camera manufactured in the 50s and 60s — to shows to take pictures of the cars and the people, recreating photos  reminiscent of the snapshots I saw of my uncles when I was a kid: greaser guys next to cool cars.

Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend in 2011 proved to be a great place to shoot with the little camera. All of the people decked out in vintage style got a kick out of getting their picture taken with the vintage camera. My favorite shot in the series was taken there: the shot of the gorgeous pin up girl in the bikini.  Cool cars, pretty girls — great fun!
