Roadtrip – 2010 Golf TDI

I just took delivery of a blue four-door Golf TDI with VW’s Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG®) and will be piloting it to the 2010 Detroit Auto show from Northern NJ. To give you real feedback from the car, my co-driver and I will be using Twitter to tweet our thoughts about the car from the road. If my initial impression from my trip to Germany is any indication, the TDI should get high marks during this trip. But, as they say, there is nothing like a long road trip to make a car show its true colors. Ok, THEY don’t really say that, I say that…but it really is true. [...]

My Car Should Be an iCar!

With all the news coming from the Consumer Electronics show and the arrival of more and more technology in our vehicles, they are becoming so advanced that many of the target customers won’t be able to use them. So I posed this question to the college student that interns for us in my other job. What does Gen Y expect from their vehicle? Is all this cool and amazing technology wasted on the older people that can actually afford the vehicles it comes in? Here is what he has to say. [...]

OnStar Reveals Mobile App for Volt

January 6, 2009 – Chevrolet and GM’s OnStar revealed a slick new application for mobile phones at the Consumer Electronics Show last night. Designed to work on the iPhone, Droid and Blackberry Storm, the application will allow owners of the upcoming Chevrolet Volt to interact with their vehicle from their mobile device. [...]

Saab Can’t Get a Break

A friend was investigating a car loan online and came across something very interesting. It seems that if you are looking to buy a Saab and want to use Bank of America, you are S.O.L. In the fine print on their site, they outline the auto loan eligibility requirements. They are relatively straightforward; outlining guidelines about no commercial vehicles, no lemon law vehicles, no motorcycles etc. Then it clearly stats “No Isuzu or Saab vehicles”. [...]

Saab Enthusiasts Not Giving Up

You probably think that the automobile business is boring. After all, it is part of the “old school” industrial empire and its success relies on manufacturing high-cost machinery, not disposable electronics or ethereal technology. But if the past few months is any indication of the potential for intrigue and excitement, the reality TV crews may be moving to Detroit in the near future. [...]

We Are Going Bi (As in Two Wheels)

I was attempting to keep my plans secret but I realized I need your help. We are going to launch a section of Gaywheels in 2010 that will focus on motorcycles and scooters. In order to create the most useful site possible, we want to get feedback from existing bike owners/enthusiasts as well as people that might be interested in learning more about the products available in the market. So, we are asking people to sign up to take part in a very brief survey. [...]

2011 Mustang GT Gets 5.0 V8

I was a guest of Ford Motor Company at their headquarters in Dearborn, MI to get a glimpse of what is coming from FoMoCo at the 2010 NAIAS (a.k.a the Detroit Auto Show). While I can’t tell you about the majority of what we saw, Ford is allowing us to share the news about the new engine in the 2011 Mustang GT. [...]

2010 Cadillac SRX

I’m driving a 2010 Cadillac SRX over the Xmas holiday and thus far it has proved to be a good, if not excellent, package. I am piloting the SRX Premium FWD which is essentially loaded. The only options are AWD and the yet-to-be released 2.8L V6 Turbo engine. It is a strikingly good looking package that hits the crossroads of distinctive and luxurious. In my opinion, it is the best looking iteration of Cadillac’s design theme. [...]
