Kiss My Astra

When I got the alert via Twitter this morning about the “Kiss My Astra” contest, my first reaction was “how cute”. Then I realized that is an attempt to be viral and that means the Astra isn’t getting much attention from potential shoppers which blows my mind. It is no secret that we like the Saturn Astra here at Gaywheels.com. Our review is complimentary and I even convinced my sister to be among the first 1,000 owners in the U.S. when she bought one the first weekend they went on sale. The Astra is competitive entrant in the segment and with gasoline going through the roof, it should be flying off the lots (Astra MPG = 22 city/34 hwy). [...]

Is Blue(Tech) the New Green?

June 26, Manchester, VT – I just spent a day driving a trio of SUVs from Mercedes-Benz featuring their new clean diesel technology called BlueTech. Let me correct that; I spent part of the day driving and the rest of the time scripting, filming and generally screwing up a video that I’ll share with you in the near future. [...]

2009 Dodge Durango Hybrid – Preview

Thursday, June 19, 2008 – I am in Boston, MA as a guest of Chrysler to drive the 2009 Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango HEMI® Hybrids. The heart of the Hybrid drivetrain was co-developed with GM and BMW so the performance and functionality of the Hybrid system shouldn’t be much different than the one in the [...]

It’s a Girl!

Of all the critiques over the years, the one that bothered me the most was the fact that we didn’t have a consistent female voice on the site. It hasn’t been for lack of trying. I had looked high and low for a talented lesbian writer that could speak intelligently about cars and trucks. That dry spelled ended in October of last year when I met Michele Fleury on Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles. [...]

2009 Ford Flex Preview

Ford set out to re-create the family vehicle and from a design point of view, they’ve certainly done their homework. This vehicle is totally unique in a sea of “me too” crossover vehicles. The two-box shape and unique exterior design details give us a modern interpretation of the classic “woody” wagon. The availability of a contrasting roof color allows you to create your own color combination similar to MINI and the chrome treatment of the grill and tailgate further differentiate it from anything else on the road. While the exterior gets your attention and makes the Flex easy to find in a parking lot,it is the interior that will please both your eyes and derrière’. [...]
