Cute Marketing Stunt or Desperate Attempt to Get Attention? by Joe LaMuraglia
When I got the alert via Twitter this morning about the “Kiss My Astra” contest, my first reaction was “how cute”. Then I realized that is an attempt to be viral and that means the Astra isn’t getting much attention from potential shoppers which blows my mind.
It is no secret that we like the Saturn Astra here at Gaywheels.com. Our review is complimentary and I even convinced my sister to be among the first 1,000 owners in the U.S. when she bought one the first weekend they went on sale. The Astra is competitive entrant in the segment and with gasoline going through the roof, it should be flying off the lots (Astra MPG = 22 city/34 hwy).
Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. The Astra sold only 888 units in June. Compare that with 20,000 Honda Civics and you can see why Saturn needs to build some buzz.
Which leads us to the “Kiss My Astra” contest. All you have to do is upload a picture of you kissing a Saturn Astra and you can win one. I call upon all ye creative gays and lesbians out there to do something really amazing and win this car. When you do, send me a photo.
Go to KissMyAstra.com and enter to win a new Saturn Astra. Just don’t call me when you can’t figure out the radio!
