Cadillac comes out during the NY Auto Show

In a first-of-its-kind event – and something we hope to see a lot more of in the future – Cadillac hosted a reception geared towards the LGBT community during this year’s New York International Auto Show. Gays and lesbians from a wide range of professional backgrounds rubbed shoulders, talked cars, and clinked cocktail glasses at this ground-breaking soiree. Seeking to counter what one sassy guest referred to as GM’s “old white guys in suits” image, Cadillac chose the New York show and Jacob Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan to come roaring out of the closet. The Other Star of A SINGLE MAN

Somewhere between wallowing in memories of past love, brooding in loneliness, lecturing at a university, engaging in mid-night trysts, frequenting gay bars, being pursued by a beautiful young man, romping in the ocean, confiding in Julianne Moore, and planning an exit from this earth, A Single Man’s Colin Firth drove a Mercedes 220S Coupe. If I were a college prof in 1964 and lost my partner in a tragic accident, I might have been driven to indulge in these diversions. I would also have driven the Mercedes. [...]

Chevrolet gets its GLEEk on

Look, we know that not everyone is a fan of Glee. For one thing, it’s mostly about high schoolers, and their lives? Not always interesting. It’s also slick to the point of being unbelievable. And, at the core of Glee’s glittery little heart, it’s a musical, and sometimes after a long day of arguing with Phil in Risk Management, we’d rather kick back, enjoy a gay-friendly Bud Light, and not be assaulted by barely post-pubescent belters. All valid complaints. [...]

Mercedes-Benz ponies up for LGBT viewers

Yesterday, a reader pointed us to a press release announcing Acura’s sponsorship of World Team Tennis — the implication being that Acura will gain some brand recognition among LGBT sports fans. But we’ll see Acura’s advertising bet and raise it by Mercedes-Benz’s sponsorship of the U.S. Open and Sex and the City II. Top that. [...]

2010 Toyota Prius, revisited

Despite all of the Prius’ supposed run-away dreams in California and elsewhere, the high-tech wonder from Japan continues its reign as the best-selling hybrid of all time, with over 1.3 million sold to date. Ten years ago, it defined what a practical four-door high-efficiency car could be. Now in its third-generation, the Toyota Prius still rides on top of the segment it created. [...]

2010 Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum

So well established as the ultimate SUV, Escalade is the only Cadillac with a non-ambiguously-lettered nomenclature. It summarily displaced Range Rover as the preferred over-luxuriated truck for Hollywood stars, corporate elite, and anybody else wishing to drive a capable and stylish wagon. Well into its second generation, minor complaints about the Escalade’s interior trim quality are slashed with one word: Platinum. It is Cadillac to the MAX. [...]
